If you’ve been a part of my journey for a while, then you know that I travel quite a bit. And if we’re just connecting here for the first time, I travel quite a bit! 😉
As a result, I tend to find myself in a lot of different gyms, many of them hotel fitness centers. And each time I walk into one of them with my iPad in hand, I feel grateful for the virtual gym that accompanies me wherever I go.
The struggle is real
You see, it wasn’t too long ago that my gym experience wasn’t so simple. It was stressful, much like what I see with many of the people I meet on the road. It wasn’t that I hated the gym—quite the contrary—but going to one can be a pretty frustrating experience.
I remember what it’s like to show up to the gym feeling overwhelmed and confused. There you you are, surrounded by a sea of strange looking machines and fitness equipment, pretending you know exactly what to do. Meanwhile, a bunch of bodybuilders are lifting and grunting all around you. 🏋️♀️
Naturally, everybody seems to know each other, and they all know the right amount of reps and sets to do. They bounce from machine to machine, expertly choosing the proper weights and the right equipment to use. Oh, and to top if off, everybody’s eyes are glued on you, critiquing your form and judging your every move. 👀
Of course, that’s not _really_ the case, and your mind’s just playing tricks on you. But it doesn’t change the fact that for many people, the gym can be a pretty intimidating place. From the second you walk in the door, it can feel like you don’t belong. And even though the gym is technically a place for everyone, it can feel like it’s for everyone but you.
As if the mental games aren’t enough, it gets even more complicated for all the mommas out there. I remember having to drag my children to the Kids Club, praying that I could make it through my workout before somebody interrupted me to change a poopy diaper. 💩
It didn’t get any easier as the kids got older either. Whenever it was time for mommy to take everyone to the gym in hopes of squeezing in a quick workout, a battle would break out because my girls didn’t want to go to the Kids Club. And don’t even get me started on all those germs! 😷
Then there’s the inconvenience of the time involved. I remember having to pack my gym bag every morning before work and put it in the trunk. Despite feeling exhausted after a long day, and knowing I had papers to grade, baths to draw, and dinner to make, I’d carve out just enough time to drive to the gym and get in those precious “me minutes.” But by the time I got home from working out, it was close to 7 pm, and I felt like my day was over. 😔
A virtual solution
Then I found at-home fitness through Beachbody, and there was no more being confused as to what to do. There was a calendar, a system, and a trainer to follow; programming that was developed by experts—not a hacked-together routine of moves borrowed from fitness magazines. 🤷🏼♀️
There was no guessing; there was just DOING. No longer did I have to worry about the kids and how my workouts affected them. They could be comfortably in their rooms—at home and germ free!—or right in the living room watching, and even joining me in my routine.
My gym commute went from barely doable to no longer being an excuse. I could simply wake up, pee, and get in an amazing workout every single morning, which not only freed up the rest of my day, but left me feeling way less frazzled and a whole lot more dazzled! 🤩
Still, while workout DVDs gave me freedom I’d never had, they were still DVDs. Inevitably, the discs would get scratched and stop working, and let’s be honest, you were pretty much limited to the programs you purchased. Nobody was magically adding any new workouts to the shiny discs below your TV! 📀
That’s why I’m so thankful to have Beachbody On Demand, my very own stable of elite super trainers who travel with me anywhere I go, taking me through the best programs on the planet, and motivating me to keep going when the old me would have stopped.
Once I finish a program, I simply move on to the next one that fits my goals. And when a new one comes out, it’s automatically added to my library. _Take that, stupid DVDs!_ 🤣
Of course, if you were born in the streaming era and don’t come from the days of discs or tapes, then you may not appreciate just how awesome it is to have every workout ever made by Beachbody in your pocket at all times. But let me tell you, it’s the greatest thing since . . . well . . . DVDs!
But more than anything, what I’m most grateful for is having a solution to share with people who find themselves in my old shoes. Now, every time I see someone step into a gym with that same look of apprehension I used to wear on my face, I know I have a proven path for them to join me on, if they so choose.
Because I don’t want anyone thinking that fitness is only possible through frustration, or that they don’t have the time, tools, or support they need to live a healthier, happier life. I don’t want anyone wasting their time drowning in a sea of confusing machines and equipment, searching for the right combination of sets and reps to stay afloat. And I definitely don’t want anyone to experience that awkward dance of moving from bench to machine, treadmill to elliptical, going through the motions without ever finding the rhythm they seek.
That’s why when I see people at the gym today wandering around lost in their routine, I can’t help but want to “save” them from the frustration I know so well. But as much as I would like to steer them down a more encouraging road to faster, sustainable results, the truth is, I can’t. Because every person must choose their own path. And as long as someone is striving for a healthier body and mind, then I’ll always be proud of them for trying.
But just because I may not be able to “save” others who feel lost in fitness, perhaps I can point you toward a future where YOU can save you.
A proven path
One of the reasons we get so frustrated working out is because we feel like we’re putting in a ton of effort for very little results. But like I said, it doesn’t have to be that way!
I’m here as living proof that when your workouts are smart, efficient, and dare I say FUN, you tend to get a lot more bang for your buck. Not only do you find yourself putting in less time, but you make more progress as a result! Suddenly, those changes you’ve been so desperately seeking start to happen at a more rapid pace.
Look, I know what you’re thinking: If there’s a better way to do this, then why doesn’t everyone use this awesome thing called BOD?
Good question! 😏
I think the answer is pretty simple though: Humans are creatures of habit. We’re resistant to change. And if you’re anything like how I used to be, then it’s hard to believe that working out in your living room could ever deliver better results than going HAM at the gym. 💪
But it’s the truth! And that’s the best part about BOD—it _is_ a gym. And it’s a kickass one at that! Not only can you take it with you to any physical gym in the world, but you can use it at the top of a mountain, in your backyard, at a park, or even at the pool!
The trainers travel the world with you, and you never have to guess what to do or how to do it. All the inefficiency is gone! And once you finish your current program, you simply move on to the next one that fits your goals. That’s the beauty of BOD—it’s the Netflix of fitness. Except in this case, you can “binge” your way to a healthier you! ❤️
